A Look into My Recent Creativity

Monday, June 10, 2013

Good afternoon everyone! I wanted to show you guys a little preview of things I've been working on recently - it's mostly design work, but I know I need to start drawing more, so hopefully I'll start posting some illustration work here soon.
From top to bottom, you'll see 1) a painting of a Weedy Sea Dragon Mermaid, 2) a logo for a coworker's tech blog, 3) a laundry label for a friend, 4) a Save the Date postcard, 5) a logo for a friend's blog revamp (which is almost ready to be shared!!), and 6) a logo for a non-profit.

This isn't everything that I've been working on in the last few weeks - but I have some big things to share soon, so I hope you stay tuned!

S.R.M. Revamp : Coming Soon!

Wednesday, February 20, 2013

Hey there my favorite visitors! I know I haven't been posting a whole lot of creations recently, but there is a reason for that! Apart from my camera that has gone MIA, I've been doing almost nothing more but doing a complete and utter revamp of my home office/craft room. I was just telling Gadget this morning that I wish I had a camera in the top corner and did a time-lapse of the whole process. It goes from being a mess to an organized mess, to a mess, to clean. Gadget always pops his head in at the absolute WORSE times... I'm sure he thinks I'm crazy.

Actually, that's not all that I've been doing. I've been working on my upcoming graphic shop as well as a complete revamp of this blog's layout.

I've decided to share some previews of the first idea I had for the revamp. I liked the blue, but I wanted orange - which is why the only difference is the color for these two shots.

Now, why not just use these, you ask? Because I want to showcase some more artwork in my layout. The final layout will be very similar to the layouts you see above, but with some differences here and there.

What do you guys think? I'd love to hear what you think, and if you think this would be an improvement on the current layout.

Thursday Art!

Thursday, June 7, 2012

I finished my harpy piece for the card game. Not sure if I'm allowed to post the full thing yet... So have some more previews (some are from before it was finished). Overall, I'm pleased. There are a few things that I would change - but I won't.

Also, today at work we had a Go-Kart event. It was fun and pretty crazy.

"Huesday" Art in Progress

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

I've been drawing a lot recently. Some doodlin here and there, but mostly working on this big piece. Gadget and I are close friends with our academic director (from when we were in college) and his wife. Every Friday, we go to their house (they're close neighbors now that we've moved) because he holds art studio and occasionally an art-related radio show. He's currently in the midst of creating a card game called Dark Legacy (find out more here on his kickstarter). He's had a couple of alumni and a professor or two do some of the artwork for some cards. He asked Gadget and I if we would like to do a card as well.

I got : Harpies

That's what I've been working on. I'll admit that one thing I avoid in art is interacting characters in a single piece. Its definitely something that I need to work on. This card became the perfect excuse to practice - as it involved 3 characters. I did a bunch of sketches in my sketchbook and even worked steadily on a "final piece." I had what I call the final sketch and had even started inking... But I wasn't happy so I worked on it less and less. Finally, I just scrapped it and started over.

The piece I have now is much more dynamic and I couldn't be happier. I'm in the coloring phase now, so I'm going to share some WIP shots of the original sketch, the newer sketch, lineart and coloring thus far:

1 // The rough sketch of the scrapped version. 2 // Changed the pose of the front harpy.
3// Halfway through the more finalized sketch, I changed the front harpy again.

4 // The more finalized "sketch" - or rough inking. One-in-the-same in my process. I really love her face.

5 // Scrapped old version. Did a rough thumbnail painting/sketch for a new composition. You will notice I stole the face off of step 3 above.

6 // Starting to ink the middle harpy. I am known for my love of drawing hair.

7 // Inking the largest harpy. Just about finished with her.

Hopefully, I'll meet my deadline. I will post some more WIP shots as I work on it.
